Mary Byrom is an award winning, internationally exhibited artist well know for her sensitive, elegant interpretations of wild, beautiful places. She paints outdoors all year, capturing plein air paintings of the landscape that are brought back to the studio where they become the inspiration for large landscape paintings. She paints en plein air through out all of the New England States, the southeastern US and in numerous locations in the western part of the US.

She is featured in Plein Air Magazine, South West Art Magazine, Portland Press Herald, Art Scope and numerous other publications. She maintains a studio and a home in North Berwick, Maine.

ARTIST STATEMENT : Visual art is a language. As an artist I paint to express or communicate ideas, stories, moods, beauty, memories and moments in time.Painting en plein air is all encompassing. Painting in nature calls for patience, diligence, resourcefulness, perseverance and humor. I am surrounded by my subject, immersed in its mood and affected by its mercurial temperament as the light, air and temperature constantly change all around me. The time of day, the season of the year, the weather and temperature all affect how I choose, view and paint the scene in front of me.

The challenge of this task is for me to totally concentrate on the mood or scene that first captured my attention. The light on billowing white clouds, the contemplative calm of reflecting water or the golden light of afternoon sun on an autumn hillside may entice me to pause and study a scene, but it will be a deeper connection to it that will persuade me to paint it.

I paint moments of beauty and hope that others appreciate and benefit from my work.
