Biography

Kathleen Robbins has been a member of Button Factory Artist Studios in Portsmouth NH for 20 years. Her work navigates the line between abstraction and figuration. Working directly from life she distills the elements of the landscape to an economy of mark making and random shorthand. The loose abstract quality of the paint conveys the mood and sense of place. By stripping away explicit details and embracing the fluidity of abstraction, the work becomes a visual dialogue between the physical world and the emotional interpretation. Kathleen received her Master’s Degree in painting from Massachusetts College of art in 1995 and worked as an adjunct faculty member there until 2001. She has received many awards including the Omer T Lassonde 35th Annual Juried Exhibition "Beyond the Boundaries" NHAA 3/2021-5/2021 and the Juror Andrew Spahr Chief Curator Currier Museum of Art, Manchester, NH 2nd place. Her recent publications can be found in Studio Visit Magazine and Northern Woodlands Magazine. She has exhibited in the Van Ward Gallery, the Maine Art Hill Gallery, Art 3 Gallery, and the Kennedy Art Gallery Portsmouth NH.
